Who is gabriel castlevania

Dracula meets the Hooded Man. Back in the present, Dracula is then sent by Zobek to the cathedral where he woke up, as he sensed a powerful presence there. Upon arriving, Dracula witnesses a hooded man leaving the cathedral. When he approaches him, a powerful demon named Abaddon appears, allowing the hooded man to escape in the confusion. After a long chase around the city, Dracula is attacked by the hooded man in the city's library.

However, Dracula needs to fight Abaddon, who followed them, while the man flees again. Dracula eventually destroys the demon and follows the man's trail to a church.

Inside, he finds his Void and Chaos powers disabled as the church protected by holy magic, and then realizes that the man before him belongs to the Brotherhood of Light. The two engage in a fierce battle, breaking the floor and falling to a cave under the church, and Dracula emerges victorious, despite the man making use of a Combat Cross, as well as other tools of the Brotherhood, such as holy water and a demon-summoning dark crystal.

As he stands over the hooded man, Dracula realizes people are watching them, and spares the man's life. The hooded man presents himself as Victor Belmont , protector of humanity. Dracula gives him the antidote to protect the non-infected people taking refuge there, and Victor offers the Vampire Lord his help. The two exit the caves, and meet Zobek's Lieutenant on Victory Plaza. There, after Victor sacrifices his life to bait the second Acolyte, Dracula recovers the last piece of the Mirror of Fate from Victor's body.

Dracula faces his ' inner self '. Dracula returns to the castle and meets Trevor. But when the father and son try to rebuild the Mirror, the Evil Blood captures the boy, and Dracula has to fight his inner self , a construct of blood representing his evil nature. Gabriel frees Trevor and reunites with his family. He then leaves the castle. In the city, Dracula infiltrates the lair of the second acolyte, Nergal Meslamstea , and confronts him in his office.

However, unfortunately, the place greatly enhanced Nergal's powers while his own power is dampened, leaving Dracula no match for his opponent, but he is able to withstand his lightning long enough to lure him to the castle, thus negating Nergal's power boost while restoring Dracula to his full power, which is considerably superior to that of Nergal's base level of power.

After fighting fiercely with the Riders of the Storm possessed by Nergal, Dracula destroys the statues and crushes Nergal's skull. Before leaving the castle, he makes a promise to Trevor: when all this is over, he will choose his family, saying he "already did". With the help of the Lieutenant, Dracula reaches the final acolyte, Guido Szandor. There, he is abruptly forced into the Castle, where he is encouraged by Marie and Trevor to read the Book of Dracul , which enables Gabriel to regain his lost memories of the pact he made with Alucard, and the Lieutenant removes his helmet, revealing himself to be Alucard in disguise.

Father and son celebrate their reunion, but Zobek, sensing the treachery, appears and transforms into his true form, that of Death. Dracula decides to confront Death alone, and after a long battle, Gabriel kills Zobek and reclaims the Vampire Killer, his old weapon.

Dracula parts ways with Alucard to find the last Acolyte, who vanished before the fight with Zobek. Dracula kills Satan. The two vampires find the Acolyte in Dracula's cathedral and allow him to summon Satan , making him vulnerable. Satan is unimpressed upon seeing Dracula and Alucard behind his son and murders Guido to punish him for leading Satan's greatest enemies right to him.

After a brief chat with Dracula, Satan summons the Leviathan, which takes off into the sky with Satan on its back. With the help of Alucard, Dracula climbs onto the Leviathan and kills the huge demon by having it swallow its own energy.

During the fall, Dracula fights in a duel with Satan, who has possessed Alucard's body. After the battle, Satan taunts Dracula, insisting that Gabriel cannot kill his own son, but Dracula claims otherwise and prepares to stab Alucard's body with the Vampire Killer.

Seeing this, Satan flees before the strike, and Dracula ceases his attack in the nick of time and rushes toward Satan, impaling him with the Vampire Killer, killing the Devil once and for all. Dracula stares one last time into the Mirror of Fate.

With Zobek and Satan both slain and the ancient pact fulfilled, Dracula awakens his son by feeding him his blood, and breaks the Mirror of Fate, stating that he should be the master of his own destiny. As the sun rises, Gabriel and Alucard leave for the cathedral together, their future uncertain. Gabriel is tall with a muscular build. His hair is brown and sometimes depicted as curly and long.

Though in the actual game, it appears to be straight and is about shoulder length however, in the epilogue of the first game, and in Lords of Shadow 2 , his hair is shown to have grown past his shoulders. It is emblazoned with a skull and consists of thick plates that cover all of his upper body. His legs are covered with ironclad boots.

In addition, Gabriel's armor also contained a hood which he could wear to conceal his face should the need arise. Originally, Gabriel's design resembled a classic barbarian, before Kojima then advised the staff to refine him into a character that was more relatable for the player. David Cox mentioned that Robert Carlyle , who provides the voice for Gabriel is a bit similar to the character. In the epilogue of Lords of Shadow , Gabriel appears to have aged rather significantly and his appearance has changed drastically.

Instead of his old gauntlets, he now wears bits of two steel gauntlets held on by scraps of fabric along with some jewelry and finger covers. He is less muscular than he was in the past but proves to still be formidable as seen when he survived the fall from his lair onto a paved street. His hair is now longer and white, and he now has sickly pale skin. His eyes glow a deep orange and he now has the ability to grow fangs at will.

As a child, Gabriel sometimes fell into dark moods and had a tendency to brood, which could only be broken with the aid of Marie, whom he came to love deeply. As a man, Gabriel was still morose and moody at times, but he was also incredibly tenacious, noble and faithful, having been raised by the Brotherhood to believe in God and put his faith in Him. Following the death of Marie, Gabriel was heartbroken and when he discovered a chance to revive her, he was willing to go anywhere and do anything to resurrect her.

During his quest, he learned that the founders of the Brotherhood were the cause of the troubles of the world, and his faith began to waver. He was also plagued with nightmares of Marie's death, which prevented him from sleeping, and as the stress grew he ceased sleeping and soon stopped eating.

The death of Claudia, an innocent, made him even more bitter and angry. At the end of Gabriel's quest, he no longer cared for the suffering of others and held his grief and sorrow in place with anger, consumed by his wish to revive Marie. He even consigned a disgraced holy man, albeit a selfish and cowardly one on the brink of insanity, to death by taking a holy relic which had protected him.

When he faced the Lord of the Necromancers, Gabriel learned that Zobek had influenced him with the Devil Mask to make him pursue the powers of the Lords of Shadow to fulfill the prophecy by killing everything in his way, including his Marie. This was the plan, but the Lord of the Dead had not foreseen the darkness within Gabriel, and how terrible he would become, earning him the nickname "Prince of Darkness".

He said that Gabriel was a beast and a cold-blooded murderer. Following the final battle, Gabriel saw Marie again but was ashamed of himself and what he had done during his quest. Marie forgave him, saying that while he was flawed, he was as God intended, and she still loved him. The revelation that the God Mask Gabriel had reclaimed could not resurrect the dead was the final blow to Gabriel and, his spirit broken, he wept as Marie left for Heaven.

When Laura called him to her, asking for help defeating the Forgotten One, Gabriel claimed not to care for the fate of the world, and only agreed to help the vampire so he would not be plagued by more guilt for having failed humanity.

After drinking Laura's blood Gabriel relinquished most of his humanity and claimed that he was now darker and more terrible than the demon he hunted, which became true when he claimed the demon's power and killed him. He then renamed himself Dracul and returned to the human world. Dracula's feelings of pain and emptiness became manifest in the Void Sword and Chaos Claws which replaced for him the Light and Shadow magic he had wielded as the Brotherhood's chosen one.

Dracul known to the people as Dracula hungered for revenge on the Brotherhood and wished to remake the world as he saw fit, in revenge for his betrayal, becoming a cold, cruel, cynical and ruthless being with complete confidence in his abilities. During this time he formed a sort of philosophy on killing based on his nihilistic view of the world; he felt that he had sent his victims to a better place, and he did not care to learn more about them.

Thus he denied knowing Trevor's mother when he first confronted his son. In spite of how dark he had become, Dracula's love for his family remained as strong as ever. When he learned of the true identity of Trevor, he was instantly horrified and remorseful for having killed his and Marie's son to the point of crying, previously looking genuinely happy upon learning he had conceived a child with his beloved.

He desperately attempted to revive him, but when it seemed to fail, he gave his son a respectful burial. Now far more angry than ever at the Brotherhood's latest betrayal -sending his own son to kill him-, he sent his werewolves to their sanctuary to kill all who live there and resumed his old plans.

Dracula was also considerably fond of his grandson Simon, acknowledging his fighting prowess as being worthy of being a Belmont, and greeted Alucard cordially and tried to recruit him. Even though he attacked both his son and grandson, it was luminously obvious that Dracula considerably held back and was merely putting up a show for their benefit, never using his void or chaos power and sticking only to his mist form, fireballs and Shadow Whip and going as far as to never strike the killing blow while having one of them restrained, in order to seemingly allow them to defeat him, strongly indicating he was willing to be temporarily destroyed rather than kill Alucard and Simon, the only living relatives he had left and proofs of his love for Marie.

Dracula's voice actor Robert Carlyle admitted that Dracula doesn't relish who he is, and would prefer a more normal life and a better relationship with his son. He seemed to have somewhat more empathy and mercy for families, as he was genuinely shocked and a bit remorseful for having fed on an entire family while having the other members watch and wait for their turn in horror, likely as it reminded him of the same thing he did to Marie, only it was much more brutal.

While conversing with Alucard, Dracula further elaborated on his nihilistic and apathetic viewpoint, using his own fall as an example of the darkness that resides in the heart of all of humanity, that even if he were to die now others would simply take his place, and that ultimately evil would prevail, proving itself the natural order of everything. Snapping a disfigured cross, he demonstrated his belief that the world was thus, irrevocably broken. In modern times, Dracula still lived but had withdrawn from the world out of disgust and weariness, becoming a shadow of his former self, despairing of his undead existence and longing for death.

To this end, he entered into a pact with Zobek to defeat Satan in exchange for true death. On his final quest, he encountered specters of his wife Marie and Trevor as a boy. These apparitions dramatically changed Dracula, awakening what remained of the man he once was and causing him to choose his family over his dark life.

Although he still expressed his immense hatred for God, resolving to be forever a thorn in his side, he had finally abandoned his crusade against God even if only reluctantly in favor of a better familial life. When Dracula met his son's child form, he was clearly more distressed than ever by how Trevor resented him but still showed his care by willingly protecting him from the castle, killing his own subordinates to protect him, even though at the time he was unsure if he was an illusion or not, and uncharacteristically tried to justify his reasons, but Trevor coldly rebuffed him.

Nevertheless, Dracula trusted Trevor whenever he came to him for information and even went as far as to collect the pieces of the Mirror of Fate simply because Trevor wanted it to play. This infuriated the blood of his castle and caused him to take form to attempt to corrupt him again, but Dracula proved his light side, which is his love for his family, had triumphed over his darkness and defeated his demons.

He also promised and kept his word that he will choose his family overall he had wanted and become. After Zobek's Lieutenant was revealed as Alucard, Dracula immediately treated him as an equal, all antagonism he showed gone, and trusted his son completely, following his guidance when they finally fought Satan and his monsters.

He finally defeated Satan by tricking him that he would sacrifice Alucard while in actuality he was merely baiting him out. After this, Dracula crushed the Mirror and stated he will make his own destiny alongside his family. When Dracula encountered the specter of Marie, he was clearly pleased yet showed remorse of how he was responsible for her death.

He soon became angry by her stands of God and her actions but showed vulnerability and angrily espoused much of his feelings for the world. He bitterly demanded to know if the Brotherhood had told her of how he would slay her, or of how he and their son would become mortal enemies, showing he felt a sense of betrayal for what Marie did. Marie's response was that their suffering had meaning and that she had been sent back to help Dracula, who could not believe that she was real yet ultimately came to accept it.

He also confessed that he wished to leave the castle and that it was no place for their son. In addition, the brighter side of Dracula's personality, that even extended to holding a level of kindness and mercy for others, was shown when he confronted Victor, the last Belmont. Rather than killing him on principle, Dracula immediately ceased his attack after hearing an infant's cry and then handed over the cure for the demonic plague to Victor.

More of his human nature is seen after he faced the Toy Maker, as he was going to kill the man after being possessed to take the piece of the Mirror of Fate, but spared him after he regained his senses and merely requested the piece, all the while telling him to now keep his heart safe, in reference to the Toy Maker's past tragedy.

However, this does not by any means mean he would hesitate to kill an enemy if they were to prove persistent, showing despite his humanity's slowly resurfacing, Dracula still retains a considerable amount of ruthlessness.

Toward those he dislikes, Dracula can easily be as cold, antagonistic and intimidating as he once was, as he had no qualms threatening and intimidating the Chupacabras that he will kill him without hesitation should he try one of his tricks and after he freed him, Dracula coldly kicked him when the dwarf knelt at him and thanked him and later on told him to get out of his way after fulfilling the only reason why Dracula freed him.

While he did had sufficient compassion to let him start his shop again as a reward for his help, he remains as disrespectful and annoyed as ever around the Chupacabras and did not bother to imply he agrees to let the business continues or speak with him whenever he buys from his Shop and neither did he thank the dwarf for giving him the Talisman of the Dragon.

He also blatantly told the Chupacabras to just read what is written within the Kleidos to invoke the magic of the mirror in the Shop, even calling it the "damn spell", displaying that Dracula still retains much of his feelings of superiority, which is evident by the fact that he retains full confidence in his abilities and powers and even displayed some arrogance, viewing Zobek's Lieutenant who was actually Alucard in disguise as an inferior and even calling him a "dog" in front of Zobek.

While he wants to be rid of his immortality, he is even not above boasting about the invincibility his immortality grants him, as evidenced when he said that he is the only one who lives forever when a demon said he will take Dracula and the inhabitants of the train with him to death and later mocked Victor by saying that he is immortal when Victor said he thought him death. However, while he is fully confident that he's capable of doing anything that he needed to do to defeat Satan by himself, his goal to end his life and interactions with his family had apparently humbled Dracula somewhat, as he has proven to not be above accepting the help of others and could admit whenever he needs help and use strategy to defeat foes, proving to be capable of being ingenious in combat as evidenced by the fact that he acknowledged that due to Nergal's territory dramatically amplifying his powers, even he is no match for him there and was able to completely reverse the tides by luring him to his castle to take away Nergal's advantage and when he used the Void Sword to freeze Raisa so he can best her by reducing her speed.

He also displayed the ability to work with his son, without knowing it was actually him, quite well and cordially even though he found him to be an inferior being, although it was only after learning it was Alucard that he did consider him an equal, displaying he can work without his personal pride and arrogance as well as negative opinions getting in his way. Dracula also respected Zobek, a feeling that was mutual, despite their hatred for one another, and willingly listened to him and was cordial until he turned against him, implying that he acknowledged Zobek's intelligence and power.

During his training in the arts of combat, even at a young age, Gabriel was already known to be precociously gifted and as an adult, his mastery in the combat arts became so unprecedented that he was considered as the greatest warrior in the Brotherhood of Light.

Due to his intensive training, he possessed incredible levels of strength, stamina, and agility far beyond human ability as well and even most monsters, even allowing him to best the fallen Archangel Satan himself, although Satan was very weakened at the time. His standard arsenal consists of the Combat Cross and he also uses other supplementary weapons such as Silver Daggers that are very strong against Lycanthropes and Gabriel can use Shadow Magic to turn them to Explosive Daggers , Holy Water Flasks that creates a shockwave which damages nearby foes and are particularly effective against vampires and can be combined with Light Magic to create a powerful force-field, and rare Dark Crystals that can be used to summon a powerful shadow demoness that can utterly devastate most enemies.

He also uses Fairies as sub-weapons to distract enemies and can use Light Magic to turn them into Light Fairies , allowing them to hone on enemies and explode upon touching them.

It consists of an iron crucifix with a retractable chain quenched with Holy Water hidden inside the main body of the weapon. Hence, the Combat Cross is a very effective weapon against the undead and also allows Gabriel to channel either his light or shadow magic into it. With Shadow Magic, Gabriel can use his cross to create a powerful flaming vortex or slam the cross to the ground to summon multiple fiery explosions from the earth beneath his enemies feet, with the final explosion releasing a shockwave.

With Light Magic, Gabriel can emit from his cross a dazzling blaze of Light energy that can be used to both damage and blind his enemies. Gabriel was able to upgrade the Vampire Killer by finding the other designs Gandolfi had hidden away after he made them, as they were disproved by the Brotherhood of Light due to being deemed too cruel.

Acquiring the Hook Tip addition allows Gabriel to use the articulated metal tip as a grappling hook, allowing Gabriel to climb, swing, and rappel around the environment as well as grab enemies from a distance. The final addition, the Stake addition, allows Gabriel to open floor-oriented wheel cranks that are without a crowbar and it was also designed to give the Vampire Killer more options in hand-to-hand combat. On his left hand, Gabriel wears the Dark Gauntlet. The Gauntlet is an ancient relic forged in the pits of Hell.

It grants him tremendous superhuman strength, able to move heavy obstacles by punching them and overpower Satan with ease. In addition, it also grants him the ability to defend and counter magical attacks and conjure the flames of hell to burn all enemies. The Boots allow him to move at amazing speeds and can be used in combat, notably allowing him to jump further by jumping after sprinting as well as be combined with Shadow Magic to unleash a long-range flaming claw attack and power up Gabriel's charge into an attack using shadow energy that can smash weak doors and walls.

The Shoulders allow him to double jump respectively by sprouting large, white ghostly feathered wings from Gabriel's back momentarily which would propel him upward. While it was once capable of flight, years of being misused and corrupted through Shadow Magic by Carmilla had damaged them and reduced their power to a mere fraction of their original potential.

At the end of the game, however, Gabriel displayed the ability to use the Shoulders to stay in the air far longer than before, implying that Gabriel's righteous use of it restored some of their original strength. This process takes no more than a few hours and we'll send you an email once approved. Plot Details As the story of Lords of Shadow unfolds, it is revealed that it was actually Gabriel himself who killed Marie , while being mind controlled by the influence of Zobek's Devil Mask.

Trivia In the first Lords of Shadow, it is stated that the infant Gabriel was rumored to have been an abandoned bastard of the Cronqvist family. This is a reference to Mathias Cronqvist , Dracula's former human identity from the original Castlevania continuity.

It is also subtle foreshadowing, as Gabriel himself eventually becomes Dracula. Tweet Clean. Cancel Update. What size image should we insert? He is immortal, with scars for memories and no meaning for life. Gabriel fills his heart with anger and despair and spews hatred on the entire world after isolating himself from humanity.

Nevertheless, with Satan trying to come back to the living world once again, Zobek knows and we know, that Gabriel — nope, Dracula — is the only hope. Please wait while flipbook is loading. Dracula is both the bane and the liberator for humanity. The Prince of Darkness, the commander of the shadows of the night, Dracula is the one who wreaks havoc on human life.

However, it is also because of him that the human world exists. Without him, the world would have and, perhaps, might still be battling an even bigger danger. Dracula is evil, but the lesser one. Dracula is made of more than just pure evil trying to end the world and as someone who must be run down at any expense.

Moreover, the story offers a solid motivation and ground for the Belmont family pursuing the evil vampire for centuries and keeping the world away from his harmful clutches despite being aware of the sacrifices he has had to endure. He is the dot-connecting the Belmont family and their thirst to pursue and end him. He is the one who started this quest, he is the one who will bring it to a full circle.
